A drunk Uzhgorod resident ran over a woman and fled the scene

Yesterday, August 23, at about 6 pm, the police received a report of a hit-and-run in the village of Kholmets, Uzhgorod district. The police were also told that the perpetrator had disappeared from the scene of the accident, and the 69-year-old victim was hospitalized. Eyewitnesses remembered the color and make of the car, which significantly helped the police in finding the culprit of the accident. 
An investigative team was working at the scene. Meanwhile, officers of the patrol police response sector were already searching for the fugitive. 
In hot pursuit, the police found the driver and the car. The 47-one-year-old Uzhgorod resident was in a state of severe alcohol intoxication. Police officers tested him – the device showed 1.83 ppm of alcohol. 
Investigators initiated criminal proceedings over the road accident under Part 1 of Art. 286 of the Criminal code of Ukraine, that is violation of traffic safety rules that caused medium severity injuries to the victim. In addition, a crime under Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code is to be registered in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations. It is leaving a person in danger. 
A number of examinations have been scheduled in the case. The investigation is underway, – the communication department of the Transcarpathian regional police informs.
