A 23-year-old man and an 18-year-old girl were detained at midnight by border guards at the railway crossing point "Chop (Druzhba)". They chose a rather unusual route for their trip, trying to cross the border on foot via the railway bridge across the Tisa river. However, the young offenders’ bold plan failed, because on the bridge they were detained by border guards from the department "Chop".
The detainees had no IDs, but they said that the man was a citizen of Italy and the woman was a citizen of Romania. As they later explained to law enforcement officers, the man invited his girlfriend to meet his mother living in Kyiv.
The two offenders were taken to the temporary detention center of the Chop border guard detachment to find out all the circumstances and draw up the relevant procedural documents. After identification, the detainees will be brought to administrative responsibility under Part 2 of Article 204-1 of the CAO "Violation or attempt to violate the state border" and returned to the territory of Hungary according to readmission procedure.
