Today, in Mukachevo city council, there was a meeting with representatives of civil society organizations representing the interests of people with disabilities. The government was represented by Mukachevo Mayor Andriy Baloha, the Deputy City Mayor, the Head of the Department of Municipal Economy Vitaliy Hiltaychuk, the head of Labor and Social Welfare Department of the City Executive Committee Natalia Zotova.
Andriy Baloha said that a program to support people with disabilities would be developed in the city. "First of all, it will ensure unimpeded access for people with disabilities to public institutions, budget, hospitals and pharmacies. It also applies to private institutions in the city. Ramps must be practical for wheelchair users. We plan to make changes to the city planning documentation, so that all new buildings have conditions for this category of people," – the mayor said.
Representatives of local authorities also note that during the repair of the city road, it is necessary to make pedestrian crossings with low curbs – for the convinience of persons with disabilities. Where necessary, traffic lights with sound signals will be installed to create safe conditions for people with visual impairments.
It is also proposed to develop a set of measures to facilitate the social adaptation of persons with disabilities. This includes the installation of ramps to public institutions and residential buildings in the region, and monitoring of already installed ramps for their practicality.
The program will be developed with the support and on the initiative of NGOs and will take into account their proposals.
The program will be submitted for consideration by the Executive Committee and the deputies of the City Council.
