Uzhgorod City and District Court convicted a citizen of Afghanistan, who organized a channel of migrant smuggling to the European Union.
Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine found that out in 2013-2014 the offender smuggled to Europe twenty-two illegal immigrants, mostly his countrymen. For the "delivery" of thirteen migrants to Europe, he received 45 thousand dollars, and the the "delivery" of another nine migrants – twenty two thousand more. The latter group, along with two guides, was detained by the police in Transcarpathian region near the state border in early 2014.
After the detention of his accomplices, the organizer tried to hide in Kyiv. Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine quickly established the whereabouts of the offender and detained him.
The organizer was notified of being suspiced of committing a crime under Part 3 of Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The Court, having considered the case, convicted the Afghan citizen and sentenced him to four years imprisonment with confiscation of property. The sentence came into force.
The case against the two accomplices of the organizer, residents of Chernivtsi and Transcarpathia, is currently being considered in court.
