On Thursday, April 18, at 5:00 pm, the presentation of the book "Ivan Matsynsky – Ukrainian poet, translator and Slovak-Ukrainian literary connections" with the participation of representatives of the Union of Ukrainian Writers of Slovakia will take place in the Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library.
Ivan Matsynsky (April 9, 1922, Medzilaborce – March 14, 1987, Presov) is a Ukrainian poet, translator and publisher in Slovakia, cultural scientist, journalist. Historian of Slovak literature. Public leader of the Ukrainian settlements in Presov region. He was born in the town of Medzilaborce in Eastern Slovakia in the family of a railwayman. He studied at the Russian Teachers’ Seminary in Presov, High School of Social Sciences in Prague and at the Faculty of Philosophy of the P. Safarik University in Presov. At first, he wrote in Russian, but under the influence of Ukrainian literature, he switched to Ukrainian language.
He worked as the director of the Ukrainian National Theater, headed the Department of Ukrainian Literature of the Slovak Pedagogical Publishing House in Presov. He was one of the organizers of the Ukrainian-language magazine "Duklya" and the Ukrainian section of the Writers’ Union of Slovakia, which he was heading for a long time. He actively worked in the public and cultural life of the Ukrainians in the Presov region.
He is the author of six poetic collections, prose works and scientific researches on Carpatho-Ukrainian literature, translations from Slovak and Czech languages.
