According to the Zakarpattya online, on June 9, investigating judge of Uzhgorod City Court Oleh Prydachuk, at the request of law enforcement officers, changed the pre-trial restraint for Volodymyr Babydorych, the director of the Uzhgorod City Council’s Department of Municipal Economy, who is suspected of embezzling more than 602,000 hryvnias allocated for the repair of Poshtova Square in Uzhgorod.
According to public human rights activist Vitaliy Gregor, today a bail of UAH 3 million, set by the court yesterday, was paid for the suspect Volodymyr Babydorych, and he is free again, the website of the city of Uzhgorod informs.
As previously reported, on May 7, the court in the first case of misappropriation of funds for the repair of Poshtova Square in the amount of UAH 470 thousand, took the official into custody and set a bail of almost UAH 1.5 million, which was paid in just a few hours.
Afterwards, the Uzhgorod local prosecutor’s office sent to the court a petition to impose a pre-trial in another case – regarding the misappropriation of almost UAH 1 million during the reconstruction of Kirpa Square in front of the railway station.
"However, on the same day the regional prosecutor’s office suddenly merged the case with the case of Poshtova Square, which not only complicates further pre-trial investigation of this case, but also made it impossible to impose a new pre-trial restraint, which could reach up to UAH 5 million, given the UAH 1.5 and 3 million bails already set for Babydorych in other similar cases regarding Poshtova Square," – human rights activist Gregor notes
