Cabernet, Merlot, Saperavi, Opporto, Othello, Pinot Noir, Zweigelt, and, as always, Isabella!
Of course, there are a lot of white wines, but the holiday is officially dedicated to the red wine. The "Red Wine" has been held since 1995, this year the fest lasts for 6 days – from January 9 to 14 – and brought together 40 winemakers.
The festival, which a couple of years ago moved from the city center to a renovated park, delights with a neat and pleasant appearance of all locations and offers comprehensive entertainment: drinks and gastronomy, souvenirs, children’s attractions, photozones and musical programs. Caroling collectives perform in the afternoon as it befits to the holiday period, and in the evening, various artists and bands perform on the stage, including the authors of the festival anthem – "Rock H".
According to the organizers, the participants were chosen with the aim to best represent the private winemaking of Transcarpathia. Each master brought at least one thousand liters of wine, and they strike both with variety and special details, as well as decor.
The "Nota Bene" winery of the Nagy family Beregovo offers exclusively European wine varieties, in particular, Mueller Thurgau, various Rieslings, as well as Cabernet, Merlot and Zweigelt. They also make mulled wines with dizzying and, at the same time, gentle aroma…
Master Vasyl Antalovsky from Bobovyshche – the famous wine-growing village in Mukachevo district – is well-known in the region and beyond, and has won in the "Red Wine" competition multiple times. He has exemplary red wines, in particular Cabernet and Saperavi, and very good white varieties. He prefers these varieties, although he has original blenders too, in particular, the famous "Black Doctor."
He says that the season was not very successful, because of heavy rains. But, as always, dry wines turned out great, as the Transcarpathian soil and climate are best suited for white wines. The festival, during which the visitors have the opportunity to meet winegrowers and taste various drinks, helps to develop a culture of consumption and teaches people to appreciate better and more noble wines.
By the way, on Sunday, on the last day of the festival (which takes place in the Peremoha Park from 11.00 to 22.00), the Tasting Commission will announce the winners in three nominations: the best red wine (dry), the best festival wine (blended) and the wine of the Mayor. The best wine-makers, along with decorations, will also receive prizes – winemaking equipment.
