42 snowmen were made in Rakhiv

February 5, 2013 at the Stadium of Rakhiv, the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve organized an environmental campaign "Carpathian Snowman", dedicated to the International Year of Water Cooperation and the Year of children’s creative work in Ukraine, reported Zakarpattya online.

According to the founders’ concept, "Carpathian Snowman" should draw people’s attention to global climate change. The campaign takes place in two stages, the first of which is the making of snowmen and snow sculptures, and the second one consists of environmental lessons on climate change taking place in the world which are hold in classrooms.

One hundred Rakhiv students in one hour made 42 snow sculptures. There was the competition in snowmen making between the teams of secondary schools number 1 and number 2.Children showed an impressive imagination, creativity and originality. Snow sculptures differed in size – from 50 cm to 3.9 m. The aids that were actively used by the teams helped to embody all children’s snow fantasies. Thus, "The Physics Teacher" made by the team of the 7-B form of the secondary school № 1 had a desk with a personal computer, physical devices and student notebooks for inspection. "The Snowman" by the local scouts branch could move its arms and even talk because under the snow there was one of the scouts (albeit briefly lest to get cold).  And "The Snowman in Hawaii" (form 6B of the school № 1) not only had a cool cocktail, but also a mat for sunbathing and beach umbrella. Children also created group sculptures: "The chef and the team", "The Hutsul family", "Big family" and others.

The winners among 14 teams were determined by the commission consisting of: the chief and the senior officer of Environmental education and advocacy department of the Reserve – Bundziak V., Kolachuk I., the head and the guide of the Museum of Mountain Ecology Kalba I. and Kalba N. All participants of the winter holiday received a huge dose of fun and good mood. The biggest reward to organizers of the campaign was a unanimous and loud children’s "Yes!" in response to the question whether they all liked the event.
