4 “divers” and a batch of cigarettes were detained in Transcarpathia

Joint measures of Ukrainian and Romanian border guards to apprehend offenders, who try to illegally move contraband cigarettes across the border, continue on the border with Romania. Thus, yesterday, as a result of close cooperation, border guards of the two countries arrested 4 offenders and found a batch of contraband cigarettes.

At first, border guards of the Mukachevo Detachment noticed people who were crossing the Tisa river from Romania to Ukraine. Border patrols promptly headed to the specified area with a sniffer dog. Soon, two men in diving suits were detained when coming out of the river. Seeing the border guards, they tried to escape, but they stopped when heard a warning shot in the air. The men, who identified themselves as citizens of Ukraine, had no documents.

Border guards of Romania and Ukraine promptly exchanged information on the detention of these offenders. As a result of interchange, some time later, Romanian border guards found on their side a package of cigarettes, and Ukrainian border guards on the other side arrested two "swimmers", citizens of Ukraine who were likely involved in cigarette smuggling.
