Periwinkle already blooms in the woods (PHOTOS)

We found periwinkle near the lake at the entrance to the village of Sobatyno in Irshava district. It is now just blooming.

According to Ukrainian popular beliefs, periwinkle symbolizes the trinity: childhood, mature age, old age; father, mother, child; spring, summer, autumn; eternal unfading love, ageless life, memory, and therefore, Ukrainians for centuries have used periwinkle in wedding wreaths and planted it at graves which symbolizes memory.

Collecting periwinkle before the wedding, weaving wreaths with it for the bride was a whole ritual. Bridesmaids and girls would go for periwinkle in garden, park or woods and shear off the leaves, singing special songs.
