The construction of the Beskyd tunnel in the Carpathians continues.
The construction, which can rightly be called the biggest in Ukraine today, is under way at the Beskyd pass.
Every day, they blow up 400 kilograms of explosives here and remove from the mountain about 350 cubic meters of rock. And all this in order to connect Lviv and Transcarpathian regions.
Nearby, at a distance of 30 meters, there is a railway tunnel, through which trains have been running for 129 years now. The new modern tunnel is being built to replace it. Unlike the old one, it will be double-track, and its length will be 1764 meters (excluding portals), currently only 71 meters are left to reach the Transcarpathian side. But the construction will not be completed there – the tunnel will be fully finished in October 2017.
The project is being implemented by the UZ together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The Beskyd tunnel costs 102 million euros.
