Uzhgorod City Council officials are accused of embezzlement of UAH 4 million

The Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office has initiated criminal proceedings over embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds during construction, reconstruction and overhaul of several facilities in Uzhgorod.

In particular, those are the Avangard Stadium, the complex of buildings for the sports and rehabilitation center for disabled people with musculoskeletal disorders and disabled members of the ATO, repair of the roof and pool in the Classical Gymnasium of Uzhgorod.

The information was entered into the URPI under Part 5 of Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, ie embezzlement or misappropriation of property in especially large amounts, committed by abuse of office.

As it became known from the results of the audit conducted by the Western Office of the State Audit Office in Transcarpathian region, employees of the Capital Construction Department of the Uzhgorod City Council overestimated the cost of works on these facilities. As a result, according to preliminary data, the public suffered losses amounting to more than UAH 4 million.

The pre-trial investigation was entrusted to the Main Office of the National Police in Transcarpathian region. In order to establish all the circumstances of the offense, appropriate examinations will be conducted, all the persons involved will be identified and interrogated, as well as other investigative actions will be carried out. The Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office provides procedural control in the specified criminal proceedings, – the press service of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported.
