Today, November 17, a resident of Irshava district called the police and reported that on the road in the village of Dunkovytsia he had noticed a man who possiblly was carrying a weapon. The applicant described in detail the suspicious driver and his car.
He also said that the latter drove in the direction of Mukachevo.
Police responded promptly to the report. Within minutes, operatives from the regional police department, together with colleagues from the Mukachevo district department and with the support of KORD special forces, found the man described by the applicant at a gas station in the village of Verkhniy Koropets.
Police found out that the car Renault was driven by a 42-year-old resident of Khmelnytsky region. The man has repeatedly served his sentence for property crimes in penitentiaries. In total, the offender has spent 24 years behind bars.
During a cursory inspection, investigators seized from the detainee an object resembling a pistol and drugs. His car was also confiscated.
Police investigators opened two criminal proceedings over the crime – under Articles 263, 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, ie illegal handling of weapons and illegal possession of drugs.
Currently, operatives are establishing the purpose of the possession of prohibited substances and objects, and the reasons for the man’s stay in Transcarpathia.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
