The memory of Lieutenant Colonel Viktor Shepental, who died on October 10, 2014 in the ATO zone, was honored in Transcarpathia. At that time, Major Shepental was serving as the deputy commander of the operational and combat commandant’s office for logistics at the Chop Border Guard Detachment. Six years ago, near the village of Novotroyitske, Volnovakha district, Donetsk region, Russian terrorists fired at a convoy of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine with small arms.
5 border guards were wounded. Major Viktor Shepental sufferred fatal injuries.
This morning at the Svalyava cemetery, the chaplain of the Chop detachment, Archpriest Serhiy Yemets, performed a funeral liturgy for the deceased soldier.
The border guard hero was buried on October 14, 2014 in the town of Svalyava, Transcarpathian region. This year, Viktor would have turned 55 years old.
On April 9, 2015, for personal courage and heroism shown during the defense of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the military oath during the Russian-Ukrainian war, Viktor Shepental was posthumously awarded the Order "For Courage" of the III degree.
