In Transcarpathia, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed illegal logging of valuable timber in two state forestries for more than 3.5 million hryvnias (PHOTOS)

The Security Service of Ukraine exposed and blocked the scheme for large-scale theft of forest resources in Mokra and Velyky Berezny state forestries. According to preliminary investigation data, officials of the Mokra forestry allowed unauthorized felling of valuable trees on the territory of the state enterprise. 
According to environmental experts, the illegal activities of the suspects caused the state environmental fund damage in amount of more than 3 million hryvnias. As part of the criminal proceedings, three officials of the state forestry, including the acting director, were notified of being suspected of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art. 367 of the Criminal code of Ukraine. 
At the Velyky Berezny forestry, employees of the state enterprise facilitated illegal logging in the territories of the forest fund entrusted to them for further sale of timber to commercial entities. 
Investigative and operational measures are being taken to bring to justice all persons involved in the illegal activities. 
Both facts were exposed together with investigators from the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation located in Lviv under the procedural control of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
