Another “catch” on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border: ancient paintings and rare items!

At the customs post "Tisa", employees of the Department for Prevention and Counteraction to Smuggling and Violations of Customs Rules of Transcarpathian customs together with customs officers found ancient paintings and rare products that a man tried to import from abroad without declaration and relevant documents. Returning by minibus as a passenger from the Portuguese city of Lisbon, in the customs control zone, the driver declared used furniture and lamps. During the oral interrogation he denied the transportation of any other goods that are subject to written declaration. The customs officers decided to check what was really transported in the minibus. It turned out that there were undeclared antiques weighing 51 kg among passenger’s personal belongings. In particular: a painting on wood with the image of a man with a spear in a gold frame, with the inscription "Jerard"; a painting on wood with the image of a man with a sword in a gold frame, with the inscription "Jerard"; a painting on wood with the image of three women against the background of the sky in a golden frame, with the inscription "Sot"; a painting on a canvas with the image of a port with boats at night in a golden frame, the inscription is illegible; a painting on a canvas with the image of a woman in a gold frame, the inscription is illegible; a painting with decoration elements in the form of a bird and flowers in a wooden decorative frame; a painting with decoration elements in the form of two birds and flowers in a wooden decorative frame (paintings of different sizes). And also: a bronze candlestick for two candles with the image of a mythical animal; a mirror in a wooden decorative frame in the form of a knight without visible inscriptions; a porcelain vase, with an illegible inscription at the bottom of the vase; 8 table plates with the image of flowers of the Gien trademark, made in France; 5 table plates with yellow metal edging with the inscription "Elite France" on the bottom, made in France; another 5 table plates; a statuette depicting a man holding a child; a mechanical table clock in a wooden base. Thus, the passenger deliberately failed to declare in the prescribed manner the accurate information about the goods being moved by him across the customs border of Ukraine, which in this quantity are subject to mandatory written declaration and taxation. These actions have signs of violation of customs rules provided for in Article 472 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. The value of the seized rarities requires additional assessment by an expert.
