The businessman covered his illegal activities under the guise of making an artificial lake on agricultural land. In total, as documented by operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathia, the entrepreneur illegally dug a pit on six plots of land with a total area of about 10 hectares.
He was selling the illegally mined sand and gravel mixture to local companies. According to the results of the examination, the suspect has extracted 8 thousand cubic meters of gravel with a total value of about UAH 6.6 million. In addition, experts testified that those activities could have had a negative impact on the hydrological and ecological status of the Uzh river, where all that was happening. The actions of the suspect are classified under Part 4 of Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the rules of subsoil protection or use). Further pre-trial investigation is currently being carried out by investigators of the Uzhgorod District Police Department.
