The confectioner has long been recreating ancient recipes with both desserts and baking.
This weekend, the famous pastry chef baked bread with cheese recreating an old recipe for the "Stefan" bread – the Varosh writes.
Tourism expert Fedir Shandor explained to us that cheese bread is an old Hungarian recipe that became popular in Transcarpathia in the XIII – XVI centuries, when people began to settle in the mountainous areas of the region, and the Hungarians, who moved here, were paid not with money, but with food.
Therefore, the notions of the "people of the Stefan’s Crown", "Stefan’s food" and "Stefan" bread with cheese were used during that historical period.
The phrases are derived from the name of the first Hungarian King Istvan I, or Stefan.
You can buy this bread to go starting Monday at the Shtefanyo confectionery on Petofi Square in Uzhgorod. Phone for pre-order 0671083330.
