Yesterday, border guards of the Chop detachment prevented two attempts to illegally cross the state border bypassing checkpoints by our countrymen.
One of the offenders was detained at 1 am at the railway cargo crossing point "Strazh". The border guards noticed an unknown person heading towards Slovakia. The man was apprehended at the border by the response group who arrived to help the patrol. The offender was a 31-year-old resident of Luhansk region.
Another offender was detained last night at the checkpoint "Tisa". Border patrol spotted a stranger trying to get past the checkpoint unnoticed. The man was stopped 150 meters from the border. He did not have the documents, but he said he was a citizen of Ukraine and a resident of Lviv region.
Both detainees turned out to be repeated offenders. During the check-ups, law enforcement officers found out that the first one was detained 20 days ago attempting to cross the Ukrainian-Polish border illegally. The resident of Lviv region has been detained for similar offenses twice in the last two weeks. Before the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, he tried to cross the borders with Slovakia and Romania.
Both "travelers" were taken to the border guard units to find out the circumstances of the incident. They will be tried in court.
