The videoconference of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and the Minister of Foreign Economy and Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijjarto took place today.
A visit of the Ukrainian Minister to Budapest and the holding of the Economic Cooperation Commission was planned for this day but it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. However negotiations still took place, albeit in a different format. The parties touched upon the issues of cooperation in overcoming the spread of the pandemic, discussed economic, energy and infrastructure projects. Further political contacts were also discussed. With regard to the rights of the Hungarian national minority in Ukraine, the parties agreed to continue a dialogue to find solutions that would resolve the problematic issues with respect for the national interests of both countries. The ministers also discussed the issue of Russian aggression and Moscow’s attempt to get rid of sanctions under the pretext of the pandemic. Minister Kuleba stressed that the sanctions were imposed not because of the coronavirus, but because of Russian aggression, and therefore they have nothing to do with the pandemic. Hungarian Foreign Minister confirmed that Hungary’s policy on the sanctions against the Russian Federation remains the same. Source.
