Yesterday, illegal export of tobacco products from Ukraine to the EU countries was stopped at the customs post "Tisa" of the Transcarpathian Customs.
According to the Transcarpathian Customs Office of the State Customs Service, cigarettes were being transported across the customs border in a car Audi A8 by a Hungarian citizen returning from a business trip to Ukraine.
At the customs post, the citizen chose the "diplomatic lane" and presented the documents for the vehicle and the diplomatic passport of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.
Before the customs inspection, the citizen was asked about a visual inspection of the car and luggage. The citizen stated orally that he did not object to the inspection.
During the inspection of the car, customs officers found 1500 packs of cigarettes with excise stamps of Ukraine. The cigarettes were stored in specially made caches, namely in the rear bumper and in the structural cavities of the rear seat of the car.
In addition, it was found out that the vehicle was not registered with the diplomatic institution and that the citizen did not have an accreditation card in Ukraine.
The citizen recognized the cigarettes as his property and explained that he had personally concealed them in order to be transported across the customs border and sold in Hungary.
Thus, the citizen committed actions aimed at moving tobacco products across the customs border of Ukraine concealed from customs control. These actions constitute violation of customs rules provided for in Part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine.
Currently, a report on violation of customs rules has been drawn up, the cigarettes worth nearly UAH 48 thousand and the vehicle worth UAH 540 thousand pending court decision.
