Two attempts of cigarette smuggling were prevented by border guards (PHOTOS)

Last night, border guards of the Mukachevo detachment prevented an attempt of illegal transportation of tobacco products across the border.

While patrolling the Ukrainian-Hungarian section of the border, which runs along the Botar water canal, servicemen of the department "Vylok" noticed a person with packages.

The offender was detained, he was a 21-year-old citizen of Ukraine. The man planned to deliver to neighboring Hungary four packages containing 2980 packs of cigarettes without excise duty stamps.

To establish all the circumstances of the offense and draft administrative procedural documents under Part 1 of Article 204-1 of the CAO, the Ukrainian was taken to the border guard unit.

The SFS and the National Police in Transcarpathian region were notified of the detection of a criminal offense under Article 210 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Illegal production, storage, sale or transportation for sale of excisable goods".

Also, today, at noon, at the checkpoint "Tisa" of the Chop detachment, border guards prevented transportation of another batch of tobacco products across the border.

The contraband cigarettes were found in the cavities of a car Audi with German registration. The driver of the vehicle, a citizen of Guinea-Bissau, presented a diplomatic passport for control.

During the control operations, the border guards had suspicions about the legality of the intentions of the foreigner who was leaving for Ukraine. His car was sent for an in-depth inspection. During the inspection, the border guards together with the customs officers found about 1500 packs of cigarettes with excise duty stamps of Ukraine. They were hidden in a specially made cache in the rear bumper and in the seats of the car.

Currently, they are counting the found cigarettes and estimating their total value.
