The Prosecutor’s Office approved the indictment against 13 members of the criminal organization, who established a network of illegal gambling establishments in Transcarpathia.
The prosecutor of the prosecutor’s office of Transcarpathian region approved and sent to court an indictment against 13 members of a criminal organization dealing in illegal gambling (Part 1 of Article 255 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, Part 4 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 203-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
In addition, the organizer is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm (Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). During the investigation, the investigators collected evidence that the defendants, from September 2018 to 2019, set up underground gambling establishments in the territory of Uzhgorod, Chop, Uzhgorod district, the city of Vynogradiv, Vynogradiv and Tyachiv districts. Gambling activities were conducted on computer simulators.
All establishments were disguised as Internet-clubs. In total, during 2019, law enforcement officers shutdown 17 gambling halls maintained by the suspects. In the course of 31 searches, they seized 284 pieces of computer equipment, 4 roulette tables and 1 poker table, more than UAH 145 thousand in cash, Wi-Fi routers, modems, cash register, webcam, hard drives, flash drives, a safe, and other documentation confirming the criminal activity. At the request of the prosecutor, the investigative judge of the Uzhgorod city and district court immediately imposed on the suspect a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with more than UAH 4 million bail.
Later, the amount of bail was reduced by the Transcarpathian Court of Appeal to UAH 210,200, which was immediately paid. On the two other co-organizers, the investigating judges imposed pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with the possibility of bail in the amount of about UAH 460 thousand and UAH 480 thousand respectively, which they also paid. Another co-organizer is wanted because he is hiding from the investigation. Pre-trial investigation in this case was carried out by the detectives of the National Police of Transcarpathian region. The prosecutors of the Transcarpathian Prosecutor’s Office provided the procedural control over the investigation.
