It is a wonderful tradition of the city on the Uzh – every year on the eve of St. Nicholas Day, the streets turn bright red and noisy. Hundreds of Uzhgorod children put on bright hats, walk along the central (and other) streets, greet each other and all passers-by on the approaching holiday, give candy and have fun.
The center of this flash mob is Teatralna Square, where performances of amateur choreographic and singing collectives, as well as professional actors, begin at dusk. The culmination of the holiday is the solemn ignition of the lights of the main Christmas tree of Uzhgorod.
The parade of Mykolaychyks also takes place in the city, during which young enthusiasts and volunteers visit children’s institutions, including the city children’s hospital, where they congratulate young patients on the onset of the winter holidays.
Here are some photos from the traditional and very warm, generous holiday of kindness.
