Celebrations and laying of flowers at the monuments "Ukraine – to liberators", "To volunteers of Transcarpathia – participants of the Second World War" and on the Hill of Glory on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of liberation of Ukraine and Transcarpathia from the Nazi occupiers took place today, October 28, in Uzhgorod.
Traditionally, representatives of the regional, city authorities, law enforcement and control bodies, veterans’ organizations, and military personnel first laid flowers at the monument "Ukraine – to liberators" on the Ukrainian-Slovak border.
Then, baskets, wreaths and bouquets of flowers were also laid at the monument "To volunteers of Transcarpathia – participants of the Second World War" near the Hotel "Zakarpattya" and to the Eternal Flame on the Hill of Glory.
According to the Uzhgorod City Council, the festivities were accompanied by a brass band, the National Anthem of Ukraine was performed, military salute was fired on the border and on the Hill of Glory.
As you know, October 28 has been celebrated as the Day of Ukraine’s liberation from fascist invaders since 2009 to commemorate the heroic participation of the Ukrainian people in the Second World War.
