The two-day International Scientific Conference “Contemporary Slavic Studies in Ukraine and Europe” began today at Uzhgorod National University.
The event is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Slovak department and the 5th anniversary of the Czech department at the Faculty of Philology.
The grand opening of the conference began with a retelling of the departments’ history, in particular, the presentation was made by the head of the Department of Slovak Philology, Svitlana Pakhomova.
The Vice-Rector of UzhNU Myroslava Lendyel congratulated the colleagues on the holiday, emphasized the multi-vector nature of the activity of the Faculty of Philology, added that the celebration of even such small anniversaries unites the staff, and presented the certificates of Uzhgorod National University.
The Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhgorod Miroslav Mojzita, the Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic in Ukraine Oleg Adamchuk and others congratulated the scholars.
After the festivities, a plenary meeting was held. The conference will continue tomorrow, and on October 11, they will discuss the following topics: "Theory and Practice of Translation", "Slovak and Czech Literature in Temporary Reflection and Relations", "Linguistic Aspects of Modern Slavic Studies", "Slovaks and Czechs in Historical Discourse". Also, during the conference, the new collections of art series "Between the Carpathians and the Tatras" will be presented.
