Flu season is coming to Transcarpathia. What to expect and how to protect yourself?

According to preliminary estimates by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, four strains of influenza are expected this year: two type A viruses – Brisbane and Kansas and two B type viruses – Colorado and Phuket. The morbidity season begins with the onset of the cold season.

According to the health department of Uzhgorod city council, last year nearly 25 thousand Uzhgorod residents became ill with influenza and ARVI, 16,118 of them are children under 17.

1,918 people were hospitalized, including 1,659 children under 17. There were also severe cases, first of all, among those who failed to see a doctor in time, had concomitant chronic diseases.

According to pharmacies, flu vaccines are already being purchased and can be bought at your own expense. The drugs are effective for all four strains expected during this season. But, usually, the flu vaccine does not protect 100 percent, only considered to be 60-70% effective.However, vaccination is first and foremost protection against a serious illness, a fatal outcome. In addition, the flu vaccine protects against the flu itself and not other similar infections. Although it is the flu that is the most serious of these diseases, it can lead to death.
