The Security Service of Ukraine has initiated a criminal proceeding over the publication of a map of the region as part of Hungary by one of the Transcarpathian public organizations in its newspaper Kárpátalja.
According to the investigation department of the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region, the investigation is being conducted on the grounds of Part 2 of Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (encroachment on territorial integrity and inviolability).
The secret service said: since the image of a map of Transcarpathia against the background of the Hungarian flag "could provoke separatist sentiments among the Hungarian national minority", the dissemination of such materials is "public calls to change the state borders of Ukraine".
