Roma leaders from all over Ukraine gathered in Vynogradiv and established a new public organization

Today, there are quite a few Romani NGOs in Ukraine operating in accordance with their charters and representig the interests of this people in state and social institutions.

But the analysis of their work shows that most of these associations only declare themselves at various forums and events and their work has no real effect on the lives of ordinary Roma. In order to start uniting Roma around European standards of living, a large forum of Roma leaders from all over Ukraine was held for the second time in the city of Vynogradiv, Transcarpathian region. This event was organized by the well-known in our region Romani leader and activist Vasyl Pentseshi.

Many leaders of the Roma communities from Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Lviv, Shostka, Korosten, Khust, Irshava, Mukachevo, Uzhgorod and many villages of Transcarpathian region came at the meeting in Vynogradiv. Honorable guests of this forum were representatives of Hungary – Hungarian MP Felix Farkas and the chairman of the Romani association of the country – Sandor Lakatos, as well as former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and now the chairman of the public agency "Ukraine Defense Assistance Center" Mykhailo Sokolov.

The participants discussed a number of issues and, in particular, measures to eliminate racial discrimination in schools and public places, and also decided to establish the NGO "All-Ukrainian European Roma Center". Vasyl Pentseshiy was elected the Chairman of the Board of the new NGO, as well as the main Romani leader of Ukraine.
