Purple and gold: real jewel of Transcarpathia (PHOTOS)

Real jewel: 285 UAH per gram. This is the price of saffron as a spice. Sometimes more. This is the most expensive spice in the world. But STOP!

It’s about Imereti, Kashmir, or Iranian saffron. This was written by Alla Hayatova on her Facebook page.

In Georgia, Spain, Asia, "golden" or red cores of the flower, the so-called "threads" (stamens with a pollen), are collected manually at special plantations.

This plant, a natural mutant, known as "saffron crocus", which rarely grows in the wild, is a relative of our Heuffel saffron.

And it is the Heuffel saffron that is a real jewel of Transcarpathia, one of the blooming treasures of the region. You can enjoy it completely for free and only by looking at it.

No, these gentle flowers were not sowed or planted. Our saffron naturally grows in the valleys, forest edges, protected areas. This is the first flower to bloom in the Carpathians, when there is still snow in some places.

The most famous populations of the Heuffel saffron are in the Berezynka arboretum in Mukachevo district, in the Shalanky forestry in Vynogradiv district and in Kolochava, the famous "village of museums" in Mizhhirya district. There, the Heuffel saffron grows in the skansen; thousands of tourists come to see it. Now is the flowering peak!

The plant was named after the Hungarian doctor and botanist Janos Heuffel, who studied, among other things, the Carpathian flora. The Heuffel saffron is a Red Book flower, it is forbidden to pick it up. But you can take as many pictures as you want! The only condition is not to trample the saffrons so that they can please the eye next spring.
