Today, heavy machinery was working in the center of Mukachevo – the first stage of the preparation for the erection of the monument to the patron saint of the city St. Martin has started, the "Karpatskij objektiv" reported.
At the moment, on Cyril and Methodius square, several units of special equipment are preparing the pit for the foundation of the future sculpture. According to the project, it will be set up at the spot where the bust of the famous Hungarian painter Mihaly Munkacsy was situated previously. In 2016, the bust of the artist was moved to the courtyard of the art school named after him, and the place on the central square has been vacant.
– This is the preparatory stage and the final date of the installation is yet to be determined, – the chief architect Ivan Ivanovchyk said.

St. Martin of Tours is the patron saint of the city of Mukachevo. Every year, St. Martin Day is celebrated on November 11-12, there are obligatory attributes – the procession with lanterns and geese, as well as the opening of the first barrel with young wine. The saint is depicted on the coat of arms of Mukachevo from its first version of 1376 to the version of 1998 created by Oleksandr Andyaloshi, which is the official coat of arms of the city.
