Borzhava narrow-gauge railway will be restored and will become a tourist attraction – Moskal

Tourism experts hope that the narrow-gauge railway will become the main infrastructure highlight of Transcarpathia, the press-center of the Regional State Administration informs.
Borzhava narrow-gauge railway is one of several active narrow-gauge railways in Ukraine, its total length is 123 km, and the width of the track is 750 mm. The restoration of the facility is a priority task of the regional development in the field of tourism, the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal said.

In the summer of 2018, the head of the regional state administration visited the Romanian town of Brad, where there is a private railway depot engaged in the restoration of narrow-gauge retro-locomotives and carriages to them, and arranged a purchase of a locomotive and several passenger cars for Borzhava narrow-gauge railway. To this end, a charitable foundation was established. In addition, design estimates for the reconstruction of the historic building of the railway station in the village of Pryborazhavske (Irshava district) have been developed.
Funds are allocated from local budgets for the gradual restoration of the Borzhava narrow-gauge railway, but the full implementation of the project is possible only with the support of central authorities, – H. Moskal emphasizes.
Recall that the first stage of the Borzhava railway (which is commonly referred to as "Antsya Kushnitska") was put into operation in 1908 during the Austro-Hungarian rule for transportation of wood from the mountains of Transcarpathia along the Borzhava river.
