Blessed Bethlehem Peace Light has been brought to Uzhgorod.

Recall that the Peace Fire of Bethlehem is an international annual scout event timed to celebration of Christmas, during which they distribute the symbolic fire lit at the birthplace of Jesus Christ.

This pre-Christmas tradition was launched in 1986 by the Austrian Broadcasting Company ORF from Linz. Every year, representatives of the ORF and the Austrian scouts take the Light at the birthplace of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem, and then transport it by plane to Austria. After the celebrations in the Vienna Cathedral, the Fire is passed on to neighboring countries.

According to the organizers, for the first time in the history of Plast in Transcarpathia, Transcarpathian Plast members received the Light from Slovak scouts.

Today, at 11:00, the Light was brought to the Uzhgorod Holy Cross Greek Catholic Cathedral. The secretary of the Uzhgorod City Council Andriana Gabor also took part in the transfer of the Light, thanked the Slovak scouts, wished everyone peace and harmony, and together with the rector of the cathedral of Fr. Ivan lit the big candle of the temple.

Then, the children shared the Blessed Light with small candles among the faithfuls. Uzhgorod citizens brought lanterns to take Bethlehem Peace Light to their homes.
It was also delivered to the historical and cultural center "Owl’s Nest", where the third day of the Transcarpathian Gingerbread Festival continues today.
