The leadership of the region and the Consulate General of Hungary were studying the problems of the Regional Children’s House in Svalyava (PHOTOS)

On Friday, November 2, the acting chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Yosyp Borto, together with the Consul General of Hungary in Uzhgorod Jozsef Buhajla visited the Regional Children’s House in Svalyava with a humanitarian mission. The honorable guests were met by the chairwoman of the Svalyava District Council Miroslava Lyvch and the Head Physician of the Children’s House Volodymyr Beyresh.
First of all, they inspected the children’s residential premises. The orphanage is intended for upbringing and provision of medical care to orphans and children left without parental care, as well as children with special needs from all districts of Transcarpathian region.

There are 105 children here.
During the meeting, Volodymyr Beyresh told about the daily life of the institution, mentioning the urgent problems that require serious support. The most urgent issue is the construction of an additional canopy for drying and storing 350 cubic meters of firewood, which is used in the winter for heating the premises, with a total area of 5.6 thousand square meters. According to the estimates, the need for funds is almost half a million hryvnias.
The next issue is the purchase of modern and comfortable vehicles for the safe transportation of children to medical institutions of the region.
One confiscated minibus, which we received this year with the assistance of the chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Mykhailo Rivis through the customs, unfortunately, is not enough for one hundred children. We also have a 1993 Toyota Hiace van, which is well beyond its service life, – Volodymyr Beyresh said.
And the third most problematic issue is the replacement of the roof for the entire building, erected in the 1980’s. According to the chief physician, during heavy snowstorms and showers, the ceiling of the second floor of the building gets damp, which accelerates the destruction of the brickwork of the load-bearing walls and the concrete floor. In addition, water can trigger a short circuit, putting at risk the children and staff of the facility.
The estimated cost of the roof overhaul is almost UAH 6 million.
Having carefully listened to the chief physician, the General Consul of Hungary in Uzhgorod, Jozsef Buhajla, promised to ask the Hungarian government to provide aid for the needs of the orphanage.
Since the regional orphanage is the communal property of the regional council with financing from the regional budget for the immediate needs, that is food for children, timely payment of wages to employees and bills for utilities, and there are not enough funds for the other things, I, for my part, will make all efforts to engage charity, humanitarian missions, foundations, European grants to ensure for the orphans comfortable living conditions and proper upbringing, and most importantly, to make them feel like home – in warmth and comfort, – the acting chairman of the Regional Council Josyp Borto summed up.
