The dry, warm autumn contributed to the good harvest of rose hips in Transcarpathia. This beneficial berry is harvested from September till first frost.
This year, the demand for the rose hips has increased significantly. It’s because of its popularity among those who buy it on an industrial scale. Buyers pay harvesters 17 hryvnias per kilogram. A village family during a season can make 3 to 5 thousand selling the berries. The fruits of rose hips are sold at 10 hryvnias per 100 grams. The skin is even more expensive! Pharmaceutical companies and tea packaging factories buy this product at 5 euros per kilogram. And no wonder! After all, rose hips have long been used by healers as an anti-inflammatory agent. The fruits contain a large amount of vitamin C (more than lemon), vitamins B2, A, P, E, K, as well as various nutrients. Infusions, teas, broths made of dried fruits are usually used for treatment of colds, strengthening immunity, removing inflammation.
Rose hips help to strengthen blood vessels, reduce the risk of atherosclerosis, normalize metabolic processes, improve the functioning of the heart, liver, digestive system, in addition, the fruits have a mild soothing effect.
Ukrainian agro-industrial companies have already begun growing rose hips on an industrial scale. During a season, a small farm can make more than 300,000 UAH. Such farms already exist in central and southern Ukraine. Agrarians are sure that farms, that grow and sell rose hips, will soon appear in Transcarpathia too. It’s just a matter of time!
