A 30-year-old Transcarpathian woman died from mushroom poisoning

Roman Kelemen informed about this tragic event:

"Yesterday, a tragedy happend: a young thirty-year-old woman died of mushroom poisoning, botulism. She was a native of Volovets district. At first, she spent two days in Volovets hospital, but she was not getting better and was transferred to Uzhgorod. But she died there. And the reason was the lack of the botulism serum. There is not a single dose of serum in Transcarpathia and entire Ukraine."

The press center of the Regional Health Center reported to the 0312.ua: "The hospital is preparing a certificate of the cause of death. The diagnosis of botulism was not confirmed, an expert performed tests for toxins on test specimens. There is indeed a problem with the serum. There have been several deaths in Ukraine due to the absence of serum against botulism. About a dozen vaccines were brought to Kyiv through the Red Cross. We haven’t received any of it."

"Botulism is a disease that is rapidly developing. And the vaccine needs to be administered within a few hours. It is impossible to deliver it from Kyiv so quickly. Officially, there are no vaccines in the region. The issue of the absence of the botulism serum was raised at the national level, but there has been no result."

"We are expecting comments and information from the chief doctor of the infectious disease hospital. It is unknown why she was kept in Volovets hospital for so long. The final diagnosis will only be known after conducting all examinations, tests, etc., which is approximately 2 weeks."

Today, the chief doctor Mykhailo Polyak will comment on the situation with the death of the 30-year-old patient from Volovets.
