The finals of the World Programming Championship in University of Beijing finished yesterday. Uzhgorod University was represented by the team UzhNU_push-force, which included Yevhen Zadorozhny, Roman Melnik, Roman Rubanenko, coaches – Oleksandr Mitsa and Serhiy Orishich.
The final round lasted 5 hours, it was broadcasted online.
The competition was tough. According to the rules, during the last hour, the tournament table was "frozen", so even the participants did not know their standings.
So, as a result, our boys took 31st place, sharing it with representatives of Oxford, Cambridge, Columbia, California, Jagiellonian, Tokyo and other universities. This is definitely a high score among the 140 strongest teams in the world. By the way, the team of Lviv National University ended on the 14th place, and Kyiv National University – on the 56th place. The full tournament table can be found here.
Thus, Uzhgorod programmers generally demonstrate positive dynamics: last year, in the final round of the world championship in the United States, our boys took 34th place, and this year, they finished three steps higher.
