Uzhgorod police did not detain a man who had publicly beaten his dog (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

On March 28, in Uzhgorod, on Sobranetska street, passers-by witnessed a man beating his dog.

The Hromadske was informed about it by activists from the NGO "Second Chance".

According to their information, the animal had broken limbs and ribs.

The witnesses called the police and recorded on photos and video the man leading the injured dog on a leash. A criminal case was opened against him under Article 229 of the Criminal Code ("Cruelty to animals"). The offender faces a fine or arrest for up to 6 months.

According to the animal rights activists, law enforcement officers did not detain the man, took him and the dog home and ignored the threats to witnesses.

Currently, the condition of the injured animal is unknown, because the suspect did not report for the mandatory examination of the state veterinarian, which police appointed on the day of the incident.

According to the decision of the law enforcement authorities, he must bring the animal for the veterinarian examination on March 30.

The police also confirmed that the suspect Mykhailo Mzhen had previously been convicted for theft.
