Protecting architectural monuments is easier together

In the year declared the year of cultural heritage in Europe and in Ukraine, Kharkiv activists are looking for like-minded people across the country, including Uzhgorod, to protect architectural monuments.  

The problem of the destruction and disappearance of monuments of history and architecture in Uzhgorod is as acute as in other cities, the organizers of the all-Ukrainian project "Ctrl+S. Law on the Protection of the Cultural Heritage"  believe.

The lawyers of the project analyze the legislation in the field of cultural heritage protection and prepare proposals for the change of regulatory documents. The amendments will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministry of Culture. The authors of the initiative emphasize: such measures will eliminate corruption in government bodies and will make the process of protection of architectural monuments transparent. It is important that relations between owners, tenants of buildings, the state and society become understandable. 

"At the legislative level, there are no mechanisms for responding to violations, there is no register of existing objects of cultural heritage, no clear areas of responsibility," – the head of the project, the director of the Charitable Foundation "Kharkiv with you" Olena Rofe-Beketova.

The organization, headed by Olena, was the first to announce the systematic destruction of historic buildings and entire neighbourhoods by launching an all-Ukrainian project.

One of the tools of the project "Ctrl+S. The Law on the Protection of the Cultural Heritage" is a research film "Save can not be ruined". The film is considered a "starting point" for discussing the nationwide problem of destroying the cultural heritage.

The shootings took place in 9 cities, including Uzhgorod. Local residents will be able to see the documentary on March 27, in the cafe-museum "Pid zamkom" at: Olbrakht st., 3. The beginning is at 17.30.
