As Uzhgorod.in recently reported, rare rock buntings settled in the Radvanka quarry in Uzhgorod.
After almost a century, more precisely, exactly 90 years, the island thrush has returned to Uzhgorod, the Ecosphere reported: "It seems that unexpected snow and blizzards have driven the birds closer to urbanization… The last time the island thrush was seen in Uzhgorod was in 1928 (A. Grabar)."
The island thrush is very similar to a black thrush, but it has a distinguishing white or gray-white "crescent".
In Ukraine, the island thrush nests in the Carpathians; during migrations it can be found in the western and southwestern regions. It lives in coniferous forests, thickets of rhododendron, among the alpine highland forest vegetation. In the Carpathians, it lives mainly in coniferous forests, sometimes beech forests, the lower nesting limit is 250-500 m above sea level, the upper limit is near the upper belt of the taiga.
