The Ministry of Ecology of Ukraine allocated UAH 53.1 million to Transcarpathian region for the restoration of the Museum of Forest and Rafting on the Chorna River in Mizhhirya district. This was reported by the press service of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.
– This amount completely covers the needs for the restoration of this unique facility, – Hennadiy Moskal said. – The tender was held last year, the work will begin as soon as the weather allows. In addition, an asphalt road will be laid to the Museum. We hope that we will solemnly open the Museum by the end of this year.
Recall that the only in Europe (and one of the two in the world) Museum of Forestry and Timber Floating in Mizhhirya district, which belongs to the Ministry of Ecology and is a part of the Synevyr National Nature Park, is in an abandoned condition and collapsing. During the catastrophic floods of 1998 and 2001, the Museum suffered significant damage, and in 2008, the regional authorities under the leadership of the Baloha clan, in contravention of the law, transferred the Museum into the communal ownership, in order to privatize it later.
Local residents and the public did not allow to privatize the unique facility. Hennadiy Moskal through the court initiated the return of the Museum to the balance of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and thus made possible the financing of reconstruction works. After the opening, the Museum of Forestry and Timber Floating, will become a gem of the Carpathians, one of the wonders of Ukraine, that thousands of tourists will be coming to see.
