Moskal: “If the situation with salaries for public sector employees is not resolved next week, the people will gather and go to picket the Cabinet”

The yesterday’s blockade of the international highway "Kyiv-Chop" in Volovets district was caused by mistakes of the Government when adopting the budget for 2017, the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal posted on his page. Wage arrears to public sector employees (primarily to educational and medical workers) arose throughout Ukraine, but the situation in the subsidized regions, one of which is Transcarpathian, is particularly critical.

– District budgets collapsed due to unsuccessful reforms, there is no money, – Hennadiy Moskal says. – At the district and regional levels, we have fulfilled all financial obligations, but our region is subsidized by 76 percent, therefore, therefore it is dependent on external financial flows. The stabilization subsidy from Kyiv to pay salaries to public sector employees, which was supposed to be transferred to the region in September, has not yet been transferred. We can not stop people, who do not have money to provide for their families, from protests, our appeals to wait a little until Kyiv allocates money are no longer working. Therefore, more blockades are possible. Moreover, if the situation is not resolved next week, the people will gather and go to picket the Cabinet.

Today I sent a new telegram to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groisman asking to intervene and to resolve the issue with the stabilization subsidy. The arrears of wages, which in some areas have already reached four months, is a complete disgrace for the government!
