The publication, that contains an extensive research on sacred art processes in the region in 18th-20th centuries, was presented on November 2 in the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.
The book-album by Mykhailo Pryimych is a historical and art essay on the origins and development of the church painting of Transcarpathia, the processes of formation of professional art in the region. The second part of the publication contains illustrations of icons and church paintings on 137 pages. The book also contains a list of names of almost one hundred of artists who worked on the territory of the region during the 18th-20th centuries.
The art school of Transcarpathia was formed largely due to the existence of local painting traditions, primarily church painting, – the author of the publication, the leading art critic Mykhailo Pryimych says. Professional church painting became the basis for the development of fine arts, starting from the second half of the 18th century, and thus ensured its further revivification during the 19th-20th centuries.
The book "Church painting of Transcarpathia" was published at the expense of the regional budget, under the Program for the support of publication of works by local authors. According to the director of the department of information and public relations of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Yaroslav Halas, thanks to this program, they can publish books, which can not be published commercially, despite having a high scientific and artistic value. In total, in 2017, 16 books with a total run of more than 6 thousand copies were published at the expense of this program. Next month, the presentation of other books published under the program will take place, – the press service of the RSA reported.
