Vasyl Svyda has been immortalized in bronze

October 24, at 15:00, on Ivan Firtsak street in the city of Uzhgorod, there will be the solemn opening of the memorial plaque to the people’s artist of Ukraine, the winner of the State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR named after Taras Shevchenko Vasyl Svyda.

 The gypsum memorial plaque was made in 1994. And only now, it will be opened – in bronze. The production plant "Khudozhnyk" of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and the author, Honored Artist of Ukraine Mykhailo Mykhailyuk were working on the plaque. The plaque features a bas-relief and the dates when Vasyl Svyda was working in this house: 1952-1989. It was there, in his home studio where he created many works, including wooden ones.

Recall that Vasyl Svyda graduated from Yasinya School of Wood Processing, he was Honored Art Worker of the Ukrainian SSR, People’s Artist of the Ukrainian SSR, Shevchenko Prize laureate, conducted active social work, was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of the UkrSSR three times, was the head of the regional organization of the Union of Artists of the UkrSSR, and also a member of the Board of the Union of Artists of the USSR, a long-term deputy of the Uzhgorod City Council… At the same time, he never lost his creative potential. His works have been recognized and exhibited in over 20 museums in Ukraine and abroad.
