The President conferred the title of “Hero of Ukraine” to Transcarpathian Oleksandr Kapush, who died while defending Ukraine

The President Petro Poroshenko awarded the title of the "Hero of Ukraine" with the Order of the Golden Star to 23-year-old commander of the reconnaissance division of the 15th separate mountain infantry battalion of the 128th separate mountain infantry brigade, senior soldier Oleksandr Kapush. who died during a battle with the Russian aggressor defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The Head of State handed over the award to the parents of the defender Lyudmila and Vasyl.

The Head of State said that in February 2015, while performing a military task, a reconnaissance group headed by Oleksandr was bravely defending the position from the prevailing forces of Russian mercenaries. During the battle, the enemy threw a grenade towards the group. "Oleksandr did not hesitate to cover his friend, but perished himself," – the President said.

The commander of the reconnaissance unit Oleksandr Kapush participated in the antiterrorist operation, including the battles for the airport "Luhansk", from May 2014.
