Smuggling scheme for the supply of cigarettes to the EU countries was shut down in Transcarpathia

Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine together with the internal security of the State Border Guard Service under the procedural control of the military prosecutor’s office shut down a smuggling scheme for the supply of cigarette to the EU countries in Transcarpathia.
Law enforcers found out that a serviceman of one of the departments of the Mukachevo border guard detachment arranged a systematic illegal supply of tobacco products abroad.
The Security Service of Ukraine operatives recorded the delivery of money by the serviceman to his colleague from another department for the assistance in unhindered transportation of cigarettes to the EU. The offender was detained while delivering a part of the bribe.
During the investigation, law enforcement officers seized nearly fifteen thousand cartons of cigarettes without excise stamps with a total value of more than two million hryvnias.
The detained serviceman was notified of being suspected of committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court imposed on him a pre-trial restraint in the form of round-the-clock home arrest and removed him from his office.
