Transcarpathian law enforcement officers sent to court the case with an idictment against three persons who were sending girls abroad for sex work. Investigation in the case lasted for several months.
The men are reasonably suspected of criminal acts envisaged by Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, that is, trafficking in persons or other unlawful deal regarding humans.
The group, which was preparing young girls to be transported abroad for sexual exploitation, was detained even on May 22 in Mali Selmentsi in Uzhgorod district. The men intended to send five Transcarpathians aged 21 to 23 abroad for sex work.
The punishment for an offense under Part 3 of Art. 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, ie recruitment, transportation, secretion, delivery or receipt of a person committed for exploitation, and committed against a minor, or by an organized group, or combined with violence that is dangerous to the life or health of the victim or his or her relatives; or with the threat of the use of such violence, or that caused grave consequences is imprisonment for a term of eight to fifteen years with or without the confiscation of property.
As of now, pre-trial restraints have been imposed on the suspects. The final decision in the case will be ruled by the court.
