Border guards detained “divers” who tried to smuggle cigarettes to Romania (PHOTOS)

Today, at around 5:00 am, border guards of the Mukachevo detachment prevented an attempt of smuggling a large batch of tobacco products.

While patrolling the coastal line of the Tisa river which forms the border with Romania, border guards of the "Solotvyno" detachment saw a minibus Mercedes Sprinter and a group of people unloading a large number of packages wrapped in polyethylene. Almost everyone of them was wearing wetsuits. After spotting the border guards, the "divers" left the vehicle and 30 packages of smuggled cigarettes and fled. The border guard detained two of them, the rest of the fugitives are being identified.    

The detainees and the cigarettes were delivered to the border guard unit.

Measures to identify all persons involved in the illicit activity and to count the found contaband tobacco products are being taken.
