Because of a conflict at the border, border guards had to use weapons (PHOTOS)

Last night, at the checkpoint near the village of Zavosyno in Velyky Berezny district, a conflict arose between local residents and border guards, because of which the latter had to use weapons. The police investigators are establishing the circumstances of the incident.

Yesterday evening, the duty officer of the Border Guard Service department "Velyky Berezny" reported to the police of Velyky Berezny district that a conflict with local residents had arisen at the checkpoint near the village of Zavosyno. The investigative team arrived at the scene.

Law enforcers found out that at the checkpoint near the village of Zavosyno, border guards had noticed a car Volkswagen Tuareg with foreign registration trying to bypass the control post. At the request of the border guards, the driver of the jeep stopped.

As it turned out, the car was driven by a 46-year-old resident of Maly Berezny, and the passenger was his 47-year-old fellow villager.

Both men were behaving inadequately, started to insult the border guards, did not respond to their orders. In order to prevent escalation of the conflict, the head of the border guard patrol used a weapon – made a warning shot in the air from a Kalashnikov.

The passenger was detained, and the driver sat behind the wheel and tried to escape from the scene. Since his car was blocked by the vehicle of border guards, the offender tried to breakthrough and damaged the barrier of the checkpoint. They started to chase him. The jeep drove on a stone and overturned.

Both men were arrested and handed over to "Velyky Berezny" border guard department to bring them to administrative liability under Article 242 of the CoAO (Violation of the border regime).

The police of Velyky Berezny opened the investigation into this incident. The actions of the driver have signs of a criminal offense stipulated in Article 344 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Resistance to a representative of authorities, officer of a law enforcement agency). The circumstances of the conflict at the border are being investigated. The vehicle was taken to the Velyky Berezny police impound lot.
