Honey wine and bamboo nectar – in Uzhgorod, Honey Savoir is celebrated with a festival (PHOTO-REPORT)

Beekeepers, winemakers and producers of local food, handmade products and catering centers – the "Honey Savior" festival continues on Rakoczy street near the Owl’s Nest.

For the eighth time, this event brings together beekeepers from all over Transcarpathia: to show themselves and to see others, to boast with their honey and other beekeeping products, to let people choose something interesting from their apiaries and, finally, to have fun.

Of course, not only honey is presented there. Pollen, propolis, medicinal products, like tinctures made of all kinds of beekeeping products, various nectar-filled fruit and nut cocktails, as well as "beer alcohol": mead and wines.

Mykhailo Kruk from Velyky Berezny talks about his products with great enthusiasm. He makes nectar wines. It is a very capricious product, but the result is worth it. Honey wines have an amber color, a delicate floral aroma, low alcohol content and, as the author says, are not harmful to health.

The only thing that a representative of the beekeeping family from Mukachevo, Elvira Myhovich can not tell about honey is how to tell a real product from fake one. Because she is used only to natural honey from the family apiary. They take hives to different districts of the region, for example, they produce mountain honey. It has a harsh flavor and a dark color. And here is an exclusive product: honey made of artichoke and bamboo, with a very interesting taste and texture. Elvira says that thanks to the properties of the plants it is good even for people with diabetes mellitus. And in general, she advises to consume beekeeping products, reminding that a spoon of honey can neutralize intoxication, for example, due to excessive alcohol and other causes of poisoning.

Two dozen Transcarpathian beekeepers are offering their useful products and communicating with the guests of the festival for three days: until this Sunday inclusive. On Saturday, there will be the official opening of the festival and the blessing of honey, because we celebrate the Honey Savior. In general, the festival area is neatly arranged and organized in such a way that the catering stalls do not interfere with the beekeepers, and the visitors could choose the most interesting products for themselves. There is also an entertainment program and you can see the life of bees thanks to a special viewing hive with a transparent wall. And, of course, to taste honey… Come to the sweet festival!
